plasmalogens
I had never heard of "plasmalogens" until someone recently tipped me off (April of 2025)! I was intrigued and mentioned last week and a couple of times before that I was going to check them out and "maybe" do a program on them if I found what I found out was worth it. Wow. I am truly astounded by what I have learned!
I would say in my mind this levels my excitement when first learning about:
-
glutathione
-
methylene blue
-
indium
-
palmitoylethanolamide
But NOW, I have to say that PLASMALOGENS and their importance to all of health - well, and LIFE ITSELF - pretty much eclipses everything else. I'll be building this page with lots more info as time goes on.

Plasmalogens: The Unsung Guardians of Cellular Health
Plasmalogens are a unique and vital class of lipids—naturally occurring fats—that play a foundational role in human health. Found in especially high concentrations in the brain, heart, lungs, immune cells, eyes, and reproductive organs, plasmalogens are key structural components of cell membranes and powerful protectors against oxidative stress.
These remarkable molecules:
-
Support brain function, including memory, focus, and neuroplasticity
-
Protect nerve cells and promote myelination
-
Safeguard the heart and blood vessels from inflammatory damage
-
Help immune cells communicate and respond appropriately
-
Maintain healthy hormone signaling
-
Act as antioxidants directly within the cell membrane
Unfortunately, plasmalogen levels decline with age, chronic illness, and modern lifestyle exposures—long before symptoms arise. Low levels have been linked to neurodegenerative diseases (like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s), cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, and metabolic dysfunction.
Understanding and restoring plasmalogen balance represents a powerful, emerging frontier in personalized and preventive healthcare—offering new hope for protecting and revitalizing the body at the cellular level.

I encourage you to read this book cover to cover, as I have, especially if you are a practitioner. The science will knock your socks off, but Goodenowe writes in a very user-friendly style with lots of cool metaphors that help make tough concepts easily comprehended.
For my colleagues? No excuse. Grab your pen, highlighter, notebook, a cup of tea, dig in, and then?
Give me a call, and we'll talk!
WOW.
Dayan Goodenowe, PhD, is the brilliant man behind the discovery of plasmalogens, how to measure them, and how to increase them. Low plasmalogen levels are associated with virtually all chronic conditions of ill health, and increasing them can not only prevent the dreaded diagnoses of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, but they can be used even after disease has appeared to ameliorate, reverse, and in some cases eradicate. Plasmalogen therapy is huge for people with autism, ADD/ADHD, bipolar disease and schizophrenia, and for healing from traumatic brain injury. This is truly earth-shatteringly amazing. "Have a broken brain? Not just Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. How about autism, post-concussion syndrome, post-partum depression, Long COVID, migraine, severe depression, schizophrenia? What do all those have in common? The same pathway of inflammation and depletion of critical membrane lipids."

🤯Choline, Cholesterol & the Brain: Cracking the Egg Myth
We’ve all heard it: “Don’t eat eggs — they’ll raise your cholesterol.” But is that really true? In this presentation, I share insights inspired by Dr. Dayan Goodenowe’s research on lipid transport, choline, and plasmalogens — and why eggs may actually be one of the best foods you can eat for brain and heart health.
Here’s what you’ll learn in this session:
-
Why cholesterol isn’t the “villain” it’s made out to be
-
How LDL delivers cholesterol into cells and HDL carries excess out
-
The difference between cholesterol in your blood vs. your brain
-
Why choline is king for memory, mood, and cellular health
-
Why eggs are the richest, most bioavailable source of choline
-
The truth about TMAO (and why eggs aren’t the problem)
-
Natural ways to support healthy lipid balance and brain resilience
🤯 Takeaway: Your brain doesn’t fear cholesterol — it thrives on choline, and eggs are one of the best ways to feed it.
